Gautam Yagnik, M.D., is a board-certified, fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon at Baptist Health Orthopedic Institute. Dr. Yagnik specializes in sports medicine and arthroscopic surgery of the shoulder, elbow and knee. He is the team physician for the Miami Dolphins and the Florida Panthers. He has previously served as assistant team physician for the University of Miami and Florida International University football teams and has also provided orthopedic coverage for Super Bowl LIV, CFP National Championship Game, Capital One Orange Bowl, Miami Tennis Open, NHL All Star Game and NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament. His experience caring for elite athletes provides him with advanced knowledge that he uses to treat all of his patients.
Dr. Yagnik received his undergraduate degree from Duke University, where he graduated Magna Cum Laude and Phi Beta Kappa. He then graduated at the top of his class in medical school at the University of Pittsburgh and was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. During medical school, he performed surgical research that yielded two prestigious grants from the Howard Hughes Medical Institute. During his residency at the University of Pennsylvania, he was elected administrative chief resident and was given the Willard Award for the most outstanding resident. He completed his orthopedic sports medicine fellowship at the Doctors Hospital/UHZ Sports Medicine Institute in Miami Florida under the leadership of John Uribe, MD.
Dr. Yagnik currently serves as the chairman of the Department of Surgery at West Kendall Baptist Hospital. He is a two-time Physician of the Year award recipient once in 2018 when he was named West Kendall Baptist Hospital Physician of the Year & then again in 2021 when he named Baptist Health Medical Group Physician of the Year. Dr. Yagnik is actively involved in medical education as a clinical assistant professor of orthopedic surgery at Florida International University and as Program Director for the FIU/Baptist Health Sports Medicine Fellowship Program. Additionally, he conducts clinical and biomechanical research to advance the field of orthopedic sports medicine and has published numerous book chapters and peer-reviewed journal articles. He is a member of several national Orthopedic societies and presents nationally at various scientific meetings, including the American Orthopedic Society for Sports Medicine Annual Meeting as well as the NFL and NHL Team Physician Societies Annual Meetings.
Dr. Yagnik’s care philosophy is to treat each patient like family. He takes a conservative approach to orthopedic care and recommends nonsurgical options whenever possible. Outside of his professional responsibilities, Dr. Yagnik enjoys spending time with his family, traveling and exercising.
